Big Girl Room Reveal

My daughters big girl room is finally done! The crib is gone! It is a bittersweet transition but I am so excited . A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this room and I am so happy with how everything turned out. I went all out with tons of fun DIYs to make her room extra special! My “client” requested rainbows and flowers…did I nail it!??

Let me take you on a tour of her room. Sources and links to the DIYs will be mentioned throughout the post!

The first thing I want to talk about is my absolute favorite thing about her room…her bed! This corner is incredible! My first and favorite DIY I did for this room is her DIY upholstered rainbow headboard. This took some trial and error to get it right but I think it turned out so beautiful! I am so very proud of this project!

Above the headboard is one of the two DIY pendant flags I made for her room! With her name being Rae, suns and sunshine are special to me and go really well above the rainbow headboard!

On the wall to the left of her bed are the DIY hexagon flower wall shelves that I made over. The hexagon shelves were already in her room but they were a stained wood. I gave them a bright and happy makeover and added the flowers with the black lines to make the shelves pop! Fun fact: We have a sunken in hexagon shaped living room so these shelves actually make more sense than you would think!

On the wall opposite her bed is this funky DIY awning I made as a window treatment. She insisted on keeping her old IKEA changing table as a bench in front of the window. With that in the way, curtains did not make sense. This window is also very wide so other options were not working as well. I decided to make this awning to add character to the room since we already have a blackout shade.

My daughter loves to create art! I needed a fun and colorful way to display it without it costing a fortune in framing. As a part of her big girl room reveal I decided to make a DIY rainbow art gallery wall using IKEA frames (each under $1) and yarn!

Most of the art was made by my daughter, but the Flamingo Mom and Baby print is one of my illustrations. It is now a digital download available in my Etsy shop! The Cheetah print is by BoomArtDesigns on Etsy. She has beautiful art, go check her out too! The neon rainbow light is from Target as well as the Zebra animal head (it is old so I don’t see it on the site anymore, sorry)! The dresser is the IKEA Hemnes 8 Drawer Dresser in white.

The rug is amazing and softer than I expected (I purchased it from Home Depot but the price is three times higher now. The Walmart price at this point in time is very close to what I paid.)

The final wall was a fun experiment doing mural art. Using colors to match the rainbow headboard, I painted a bright and colorful rainbow sunburst mural on her bifold closet doors!
