My kids do a ton of art. I am sure if you are here yours do as well and you are in need of a colorful, fun way to display their art! I wanted to display my eldest’s creations using all the colors of the rainbow for her rainbow themed room. Using yarn and super affordable IKEA frames, I made a DIY kids art gallery wall for above her dresser!
Let me show you how I made these!

Supplies
- Ikea frames (I used both of the available sizes 5×7″ and 8 1/4 x 11 3/4″)
- Sugar’n Cream Yarn (Red, Hot Orange, Hot Green, Beach Glass, Hot Blue, Violet, Hot Pink, Coral Rose) (Check Michaels for a single pack of the Hot Blue)
- Yellow Yarn (I would have used the Sugar’n Cream yarn in yellow but it was out of stock when I was doing this project)
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Step 1
Take apart the IKEA frames. All you will need is the thin black frame. Once you wrap the yarn around you will not be able to get the entire frame back together.

Step 2
Hot glue the yarn to the back of the frame. It does not really matter where you start.

Step 3
Wrap the yarn tightly around the frame.

Step 4
When you get to a corner, jump over to the other side of the corner and move your way back towards the corner. Then, go back and forth until no more black is showing and continue wrapping around the entire frame. the pictures below should help explain how I did the corners.
Step 5
Hot glue the yarn to the back of the frame when you are done to secure it. Clean it up by trimming any excess yarn where you started and ended with scissors.
If you are doing a large gallery wall, I recommend taping the frames up to determine where they will go so you can play around a bit until it looks right. Then hang them up and grab that art! I just used tape on the back of my daughter’s art to secure them to the wall. I love how flexible it is so I can change out the art whenever I want!

I mixed in my daughters art with some of my own illustrations (that I now sell on Etsy!) as well as a print from another artist on Etsy. Sources below!
